International Conference "From Shtetl to Post – Jewish Town" – Call for Papers

While the historical shtetl has been studied extensively, the post-Jewish town, as a historical phenomenon and evolving site of contested memory, has received less attention. The conference explores how post-Jewish towns are remembered by those who once lived there and by those who live there today.

The International conference will take place at POLIN Museum, Warsaw on September 8-10, 2024.

The deadline for paper proposals is February 29, 2024

Scholars at all stages of their careers and in all disciplines, as well as museum specialists, preservationists, and local historians, are invited to submit paper proposals in English.

The conference accompanies a temporary exhibition, “Post-Jewish: Shtetl Opatów through the Eyes of Mayer Kirshenblatt.”
